Khan has worked in the public interest during the entirety of his career. Khan has worked for the US Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, the US Office of Government Ethics, the Food and Nutrition Service, and the Obama White House, where he worked on a number of administration priorities at the state level, including minimum wage, paid sick and family leave, voting rights, LGBTQ+ rights, tuition-free community college, universal pre-K, gun violence prevention, occupational licensing, and the opioid crisis.
